Krishna Janmashtami or Janmashtami is celebrated by Hindus on the eighth day of Bhadrapada month, August- September. Krishna is the avatar of Vishnu. Janmashtami is the celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna.

The legend goes that Kansa’s sister Devaki’s eighth son was prophesied to kill the cruel king. So Kansa locked Devaki and Vasudeva in the prison and started killing their sons one by one until Krishna was born.

How can I keep Janmashtami fast in 2020?

Lord Krishna devotees keep fast on the day of Janmashtami. As per Janmashtami fasting rules, one should have only a single meal on that day. On fasting days, devotees keep a day-long fast and break it on the next day. We should not consume grains during Janmashtami fasting.

Can we drink milk in Janmashtami fast?

Yes, you can have milk, coconut water. You can have water and juice. Do not eat any cooked form of food.

Can we eat fruits in Janmashtami fast?

On Janmashtami fasting, there is no restriction on eating fruits. So you can have them at any time of the day.
